Management of passenger information

Real-time information along the entire travel chain

Article: Smart IT solutions for the best travel experience

Innovative, connected solutions enable seamless, uniform communication and display all relevant information along the travel chain in digital form and in real time. This means that travellers are perfectly informed at all times, from the sofa to their destination.

Today, our passengers' travel planning goes far beyond mere departure times and printed timetables on platforms. Travellers want to clarify all uncertainties before and during the journey: "Where can I park, where do I have to get on and change trains?" Railway-specific information solutions provide the appropriate answers. They provide the ideal basis for real-time information at the station, on the move in mobile apps, via e-mail notifications and on the Deutsche Bahn website.

"With the help of the latest technologies, we are able to provide passengers with reliable and consistent passenger information via various channels in real time. This increases the attractiveness of Deutsche Bahn's services."

Digital solutions offer quick answers to complex questions at any time. To make this work so effortlessly, numerous databases and interfaces work in the background to retrieve data, combine it and make it available as useful information. The software solutions we develop together with our Group partners create coordinated services offering travel information from a single source.

Some of our services for real-time information from Deutsche Bahn

Travel information in the form of modules

Reliable notifications concerning changes keep travellers informed about the next stage of their journey. The passenger information system API modules, for example, provide suitable connections, location data, directions for pedestrians, coach sequences or platform changes.

ICE Portal

The award-winning infotainment portal for ICE travellers, easily accessible via the on-board Wi-Fi. In addition to accessing top entertainment, travellers can also check in and find important information about their journey. How good is the network connection during the journey? Where is the train currently located on the route? DB Systel is responsible for the technical implementation of this service.

Consulting and software for traveller information

Whether business support for new business processes, architecture consulting for new technical solutions or the concrete implementation of data solutions up to frontends for staff and travellers: we are the point of contact for the entire process chain of data-assisted solutions to make travel of the future even more comfortable.

Show travellers free seats with efficient sensors

Actively direct travellers to where there is still room on the S-Bahn. DB Lightgate uses a particularly efficient method to measure capacity utilisation and show travellers free seats. The cooperation between DB Systel and S-Bahn Hamburg does not use complex sensors in all carriages, but a type of light barrier on the track. This solution measures, calculates and uses the appropriate logic to show how full each carriage is.

Offering travellers orientation and transparency despite replacement services

Major renewals on the route require smoothly functioning alternatives. For the new replacement services, the solutions from DB Systel and DB Regio provide travellers with information and assistance in real time and without barriers at all times: on buses, at stations and everywhere on smartphones. Digital display boards show the route to the alternative stop and the destination. On buses, travellers can see the route, upcoming stops and connections. Automatic stop announcements help travellers find their way.

Together we ensure perfectly informed, satisfied travellers.

We look forward to talking about new business requirements and their technical implementation.
